From the President:

What a wonderful picnic we had ! Thank you to Lee and Claudia Manchester for hosting the event, and to all the club members bringing the great dishes to pass. Welcome to new members Keith and Cindy Arnold. They joined our group at the last meeting. Our next event will be a poker run, ending at Mykonos, Bill Sablosky is heading up organizing the stops for the run. This is open to anyone, even if you can not drive your classic, bring what you are driving and join in the fun.

On Aug. 20th, Susanna and I had the honor of representing the club at the Rotary Camp Board of Directors dinner held at the camp. It was at this dinner that I presented our donation from the car show to the camp. They were very appreciative and thanked us for all we did for the camp.

I took a walk around the camp to see  what all that the campers were doing. Some were around the pool, others were having group photos taken. The camp theme this year was Pirates. Some were dressed up as pirates, singing little pirate jingles they had made up. Some were trying karaoke. Some were on the playground. I believe that the a local horse club and a mounted patrol brought in horses so the kids could ride. I can not put into words all the smiles and fun that these campers were having. I’ve included a few photos I took with the phone so the quality may be lacking. It was the camps 45th year and a cake was presented to the directors. The camp takes in 100 kids and is staffed by 70 volunteers, but I think the thing that I was most impressed with was out of those 70 staff members, I would venture to say 40 of them were young people, and I’m talking teenagers with as big a smile on their faces as the campers they were in charge of. These young people volunteer their time to come and for the week care for the campers. Some of these children are severely handicapped and have to have 24/7 care, which involves sleeping , feeding , taking them to the restroom, and moving them around the camp. To say that a lump didn’t form in my throat at the compassion that these young staff members exhibited would be a lie.

The money that we sent down in donations is definitely going to a worthy cause. Below are some pictures of the camp.

I want to remind everyone that the October meeting is just around the bend, at this meeting nominations for club officers are made, for the November elections.

Take care all
